The Bike

Yamaha XT 660 Z, 2008 - Budget Adventure Modifications.

I use to ride enduro bikes. I really love it. The situation in my country become, I would say "different" and
I have to move to Germany. Of course I brought my bike with me with the idea to ride it. Yes, but no! Off road
in Germany is forbiden. Only on the special tracks. Most of them were at about 70-80 kms away from my
town and I have to pay for it. Also, to go there I need to load the bike on a traler, because I have no number
plate and insurance. After few months I realized, that it is to expensive and difficult to do it and I sold it.
It was ok, no drama. I always wanted to travel and this bike was not good for that purpose.

Motorcycle adventures

I was looking for reliable dual sport bike and finally bought Yamaha XT 660 Z, 2008. It was ok, but I decided
to change some parts to make it more durable and suitable for any roads.

List of modifications I made:

Forks are from Yamaha YZ 450 KYB. I changed the springs with stiffer.
Triple clamp form the same model. I used the original stem, press it to the new clamp.
Modification for the lock. Some changes and a spacer required on the top screw.
Excel wheel from Yamaha YZ.
New brake rotor (disc) 320mm, to replace the stock two. Spacer required.
New brake line, I thing was just a standard 110mm.
Front fender from KTM 990 Adventure, some modification required to fit.
Replace the stock 22mm with 28mm bars.
Hand guards from Acerbis.
Cut the tale, just left the metal holder and rip off all plastic parts.
Mounted the indicators on the frame. New stop light, small, bought it from motorcycle goods store.
New Exhaust SM Racing, 5 kg lighter.
Power commander fit under the seat.
Change the seat, better foam and leveled.
Side covers from Honda XR.
High front screen, I am 185sm.
Brake pedal I changed with one from Suzuki DR. I toke the front part from the DR and rear with mount
from the Tenere and welded together. I made from two - one pedal.
Gear shift from Touratech. Keep in mind that it need some modifications to fit properly. It was hiting
the frame every time when I was put on 1st gear, but it depends of the position you mounted.
Bash plate I made myself. I couldn't find the one I need it.
Bigger pegs, I bought cheap from Ebay - 10 $, made in China, work perfectly.

In the result of all the changes I made the bike become about 180kg (about 15-20 kg lighter). The front
become a bit harder, but I like the feeling. I still have plans to change the rear shock and the rear wheel,
but.... I spent almost 100,000km without doing it.

I hope this information will help somebody!
